Default At Last Some Welding

Finally uploaded yesterday's video showing some of the welding I did on the front body corner of the 52 Merc. This was using flux core wire with the Lincoln wire welder. I was impressed how well all those little spots of weld eventually became a strong continuous weld.

Believe it or not I used to do a little welding repair for neighbours using the old SR 180 stick welder. But that was another time, different world.
Maybe "Roosty6 Restorations" ? Although my work hardly falls into the restoration category I think. More of a resurrection of rusty metal going on here. Its fun and a learning process and that is the ultimate goal.

I ran out of gas for my MIG a month or so ago, so I put in a reel of flux-core I had purchased for just such an occasion. I haven't had any major projects lately, so I left it in the machine, even though I had refilled the gas cylinder. Since then I've done a few minor things (like building the exhaust extensions for the new headers on my test stand), and have found that it's not nearly as bad as most folks say. I've since had to tack a few things and it's still in there. I probably won't change it until I have a good reason to. You experience seems to back up what I've found.

Thanks, it is good to hear from someone who has tried both.

Its true. Pretty satisfying to make a strong weld that isn't too ugly on my first attempt. Although for what I spent on the welder I could probably pay a body shop to do a lot of repair too. No doubt this welder will pay for itself as I find more places on the Merc to weld. And there are a few.

This is my recent welding project

I took a original 1934 Hot air heater and converted it to fit a RHD car.
Involved about 4 cuts and mutiple tack welds ,trial fits , recuts and re tacks
until we got it right . The silver stuff is pyroputty to fill any defects in the welds.

I probably have the only RHD 1934 Hot air heater in the world now !

Very ambitious project you took on there. Looks like it turned out well.

You are right, it does sound distressingly like a dentist's drill. Guess I need to insert a musical sound track on the next video.
