Default 34 Ford Caboriolet

I am new to the early ford era ( car wise). My question is the vin for a caboriolet that was shipped from Argentina. Would the vin be the same format as the American Ford? Or would it be totally different?

The Fords sold in South America during the '30s were either wholly or largely of U.S. manufacture and without exception all of the engines used in those cars and trucks were produced at the Rouge Plant in Dearborn. Since Ford's VINs were engine numbers at that time, the VINs in South American Fords were part of the same sequence of numbers as the Fords sold in the U.S.

In three countries, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, an F was added to the engine number prefix (i.e. BF and 18F) indicative of the vehicles there having right hand drive (until 1948), but the engine numbers that followed the prefix still were part of the running sequence of numbers issued at the Rouge. In the other South American countries the VINs have the same prefixes as in the U.S.

Just a quick addendum to the earlier information. From experience, Argentine cars that have been off the road for a long time often require re-registration, particularly if original documentation is missing.
These cars are issued with a new VIN by the Argentinean authorities and are prefixed with the the letters RPA and a series of new numbers. To conform with their latest legislation, the VIN is punched on the right side of the frame, opposite the original number.
If importing and this is a concern, it may pay to check with the vendor first.
Hope this helps.
