Tillotson carburetors

Recently obtained several Tillotson carbs that have an accelerator pump.
Havent been able to determine the model designation for them.
Any experience using them on an A engine?
What was the OEM application for them.
Are parts available?

I have never heard of an accelerator pump on a Tillotson but we learn every day something new. There are people on this forum that carry parts for these and can rebuild them. I would try a search and see what comes up. Good luck. Jack

Saw one at the swap meet..passed on it ,bought a couple of B carbs instead.let us know how the pump wells look,imagine that pot metal didnt hold up too good.

Talking with one of our club members, sounds like this “pump” is more like a part throttle enrichment circuit (power valve) rather than an accel pump.
I have two of them in transit, will try them on the test stand.

Tillotson F1B has a pump. Not sure what it pumps or why. Not usually a preferred carb (not my experience but others report not as good as Tillotson X or XF)

Are you sure its a Tillotson and not a Marvel carburetor ?

The carbs I purchased say Tillotson on them.
I have an engine on my test stand that I’ll try one on after rebuild.

Smith & Jones has gasket sets for these, the float and needle valve are the same as Zenith. They are held together with one bolt like a Zenith but because they are pot-metal warping is a problem.

My 1930 Coupe had a Tillotson F1B carburetor when I got it many, years ago. I drove it 50 years unrestored with the Tillotson F1B and had zero trouble and gas mileage 25-26 mpg. I estimate I probably drove it at least 150,000 miles o in those years as it went from only car, to second car. Then came a restoration in the early 1990's and a Zenith installed then, and a switch to antique use. Performance Tillotson to Zenith no noticeable difference. Gas miles dropped about 2 or 3 mpg. The Tillotson F1B is now on a shelf in storage, and is not warped. And yes I have owned this Coupe a long time, 78 + years.

No problem to fix a warped Tillotson. I clamped and baked in the oven and all back to square and on my car. I posted pics in a prior thread.

Years ago when good usable Zenith carburetor parts were difficult to obtain , the new Tillotson model X carbs that JC Whitney sold for less than twenty dollars was one of the best deals available . After a few years when the pot metal Tillotson warped it never seemed to perform as well , no matter what was done to correct it . When good usable Zenith carburetor parts became available and after buying and watching the video Carburetors and carbohydrates I decided to go back to my original cast iron Zenith carbs .
