Hurst shifters would probably be your best bet. Why do you want to get rid of the column shift?

Hurst did not make an install kit for 53-56 F100. The side cover has 2 threaded bosses for the clutch pivot that interfere with the floor shift levers. (Which point up instead of down) The 57-62 F100 used a hydraulic clutch and car style side cover without those bosses. Hurst made a kit for these years. I have tried this myself on a 54 transmission (on a workbench) without success.
Not sure how easy it is to convert to hydraulic clutch on 53-56.
Mike.

If you go the C-4 route you will have to change your rear end gears. if you go the AOD route you can leave your current rear end gears. Flat-O Products in Oregon makes the C-4 or AOD conversion kits to a Y block.
