Where can I get the bushings for the brake cross shaft for the 32? I have checked with most of the vendors and none have them in their catalogs.

Ford part number 2477.

Scott,

I'm not aware of anyone offering them, but you can get there using bushings offered by sellers of such items using Google. Obviously you will need the dimensions of what you require and also you'll need to decide what material you want to use as the original material is very likely not available (nor desirable given the modern alternatives available such as nylon).

I use oilite bronze, any decent machine shop should be able to turn them for you.

Pete, I did check out McMasterCarr. Know I just need to figure out which bushing.

I did find a link to these bushings:

They have the same part number and are for Ford tractors. I think I'll ask about the specs on these as well.

It's NOT the same PN...the 2477 just means that it is a cross shaft bushing, the prefix makes it a particular one! Ford generally did not change the prefix if an early part fit a later application.
Got to McMaster or MSC, measure the ID and OD, and you can probably find a match. If length differs you will just be cutting off some or using two short pieces. There's a pretty good chance you will be able to get the important dimensions right this way so no reaming or turning will be needed.

As David said, the original ones were a compliant material of cloth etc. What I found and used were plastic self lubricating bushings that I believe are used in the food conveyer industry. The ID and OD are common inch measurements , 7/8 X 1 ? (can't remember). I found them at Grainger in the exact size and 1/2 the correct width. However they come in a pack of 5 so you use 2 per side which makes them easy to install . They are made in Germany and cost a whopping $6.00. I will look for the Grainer part number. Since the original ones were a soft material, the shaft is not usually worn. Therefore the new bushings will make it perfect again for about $6.00. You will have to fuss with digging out the old bushings,

Regarding the pins holding the ends on (cast parts with arms), can they be pressed out or do I have to drill them out?

For relatively low load bushes, I make my own using engineering nylon. You can buy it in round bar form, and it is so easy to machine. Doesnt need lubrication either for that kind of job.

The pins retaining the arms on the ends of the shaft are tapered (and slotted parallel with the pin) and can be driven out with a drift. Just look for the smaller diameter pin end.

I believe that Scott is seeking brake cross shaft bushings, not pedal bushings. They're quite different.

I am having a hard time driving one of the pins out. I had been hammering away on one side when I realized I can apply heat. Well I got the other side out, but the initial side will not budge!

I hope I did not mushroom the end and it is now stuck! I'll keep at it.

As I was working on the pins, I noticed that the holes in the brake rod arms where elongated. Can these be welded and re-drilled?

I've never tried this...but machine shop places like Goodson sell carbon rod, woodruff keys, etc for rebuilding holes and slots in car parts. You stick the proper sized carbon through the hole and weld away...

We've done it, but by welding up the hole completely, dressing off the excess weld, and then re-drilling the hole to its original diameter.
