Compression is only effected by two things. The pistons/rings and the valves/cam.
Not vacuum. They create vacuum. It's basically an air pump. Being it ran okay before... if it did. Cam could be an issue as mentioned in the compression and vacuum issue. . |

In a perfect world. We would know. But we are all just arm-chairing it. Feedback from the op is important. Less he has a super charger or something. Vacuum is dependent on the combustion chamber in my thinking.

Tubman, I bought the 40 last Feb. and the owner didn't really know a lot about the engine except that the engine had adjustable lifters. What I know is that the engine has A heads, 97 Stromberg carb, crab distributor and feels stronger than an 85 hp engine. Other items that are different is the oil fill tube is chrome, Reds headers with dual exhaust. Car is running real well with the carb change. I will do a compression check again in the future.
