Default 41 pu. Rear fender brace at top?

My pickup has a brace from the top center of the rear wheel arch to the bed side fender mounting stud, the rearmost of the top two.

Can I assume this is a farmer fix, and not original?

Mart.

Attached are photos of the rear fender on a 40 Ford 1/2 ton pickup. No center brace on the fender. There is a brace to lower edge on the back of the rear fenders. I think its there for wind resistance as opposed to supporting the fender. BTW I can see welting between the running boards and fenders, between the front fender and cab, and between the rear fenders and bed.

Yes that was a common fix out in the field to prevent the fender from tearing off the box
