I remember quite a stir a few years ago when someone paid eight hundred dollars for a leather snap type key chain with model A written on it , or some such . Can't really blame the seller . I hope the buyer is happy .

Whatever the market will bear. A lot of the items on ebay are ridiculously overpriced. I know a person who has made a lot of money selling on ebay. Most of what he sells is overpriced but he just keeps relisting these things and sooner or later someone bites, kinda like dangling a line in the water and watching the fish ignore it until one of them finally takes the bait.

I believe Ebay has driven up the prices for a lot of markets because of the prices things are selling for. It is a domino effect sometimes with one person listing an item for an outrageous price then another seller comes along and does the same thing because he THINKS that is the right price because he didn't do any research. There are some good deals but you have to sift through all of the overpriced junk people sell.

I have sold a bunch of the red books for 99.00 on Amazon. In the reviews I even wrote that they can be had for under 40 but once a year or so I sell one.

Many sellers will simply inflate the prices on items to totally unreasonable amounts when the items are temporarily out of stock. They assume nobody is going to be stupid enough to purchase at these prices and this is an easy way to temporarily suspend the auction until stock is replenished. This seller has several other similarly priced auctions and they all show that there is only one remaining to be sold. If someone is stupid enough to pay the dummy price, the seller would probably quickly locate one from another dealer to complete the sale!!! When the item is back in stock they simply change the price back to normal, change the number in stock and the auction is back to normal.

In the Home Repair business (painting, carpentry, window replacement, even roofing & siding) you never turn down a job because you're too busy. You simply price it beyond your competition.

This does both you and your competitors a favor since it brings the market "up." You probably won't get this job - but everyone else AND you will benefit in the long run.

The danger in this is what if the high bid is accepted? That puts you on the spot to complete the work - and either short change a lower profit margin job, or the high profit job - or both.

It can be hazardous to your reputation.

One thing that the motometer and quail radiator caps are good at is ruining the upper filler neck on the radiator . I prefer the clean and simple look of the original equipment radiator cap
