Google Manasoo, the ship's name - lots of info.

Briefly, the ship's name had been changed sometime in its history - it's an old sailors' superstition that's bad luck. Wallace, the car's owner, also was transporting 100+ head of cattle. The ship got hit by a storm and sank - apparently the weight of the cattle also contributed to the sinking. Only Wallace, the captain, and three sailors survived - sixteen humans and all the cattle did not.

Was it close to Alpena Mich. Lots of ship wrecks close to there.

If it was a model A it could probably be made to run again . Several years ago , I remember a story in one of the national club mags about a model A that was raised from a lake out west after many years and made to run again. I think it was a cabriolet and looked to be in very bad shape .

All you need to make it run again is to make sure the original radiator cap is good. Then you jack up the radiator cap and replace everything underneath it!

They've pulled up a bunch of WWII Warbirds from the Great Lakes (it's fresh, cold, and deep...).
And over the years some of them (I'm fairly sure) have been fully restored and actually flown...
But no Chevys so far.

Members of the Dutch airforce flew bombing raids from our northern shores during WWII.
I grew up with stories of the holes shot thru them where daylight could be seen as they flew over. Maybe those rust hole ridden old planes can still fly

Sorry about contributing to the hi-jacking of this post but, There are lots of old planes in the G-lakes, and for years they periodically get pulled out. But recently the last couple have been ravaged by Zebra mussels, and it's feared there won't be much left, if anything, to salvage in coming years.

I remember reading somewhere that there was a ship that went down with a whole load of Model Ts somewhere in the Great Lakes after loading in Detroit. Might have been in Old Cars Weekly several years ago.

Also there is a ship in Lake Michigan with 268 New Nash automobiles aboard. They were on the US Senator. You can google it.
