Default Oil drain sealer

I'd like to use a bit of sealer on the little oil drain tube that runs out of the main bearing. Does it require a high-temp sealer?

Ultimate copper or the permatext red?

That drain pipe has tapered pipe threads and it shouldn't need sealer, particularly because there's no oil pressure on it. If your worried about it coming unscrewed, try some JB Weld on it.

Thanks Al.

You're right of course about the thread but when the pipe is tightened snug, it's not oriented the correct way. I have to back it out about a 1/4 turn for it to be pointing in the right direction. Thus the need for a sealer.

You can use a 1/4 pipe tap and very carefully tap the hole slightly deeper. Just do a 1/4 turn at a time. Tap once, re-try your drain pipe. Not right......tap again and re-try. Keep doing this until the pipe is tight and in the correct orientation. Don't tap it too deep or you may restrict the oil flow.

What about a good cleaning and some type of Loctite?

Try using a product called "Tight Seal". Tight Seal is similar to a pipe thread compound.
