Default Do I Really Need Another Merc?

Coming up for auction tomorrow. I've been looking (online) at this one all summer. About a 3 hour drive so I won't be there to check the car out in person. Probably cost me $500 to have it hauled home so it would have to sell cheap. Body looks good in the pictures but no word on the drive train and I don't think its a runner. The stainless rocker panel trim might mean its a Monterrey.

Back bumper is pretty nice too considering the 52 "Korean war chrome plating".

The Monterey was a hardtop car. That one is a Custom model but still a nice car. A friend of mines grandpop had one like that. We used to go camping with it and it would go anywhere we wanted to go. They are tough old cars.

Well its a nice car but the harsh reality of transportation costs are making it look like an $800 parts car even if I got it for free.

Both my old 51 cars have good chrome on the steel parts. The zinc die cast parts are another matter. It took a long time to collect some decent parts like that. Sometimes a person just has to decide what can be finished & kept in good condition and let the rest go.

Go for it Ralph, my Dad had a '53 2 door that he cartopped a boat with, 3 of us kids would climb in the back and my little brother and Dad,mom would ride in the front. Trunk was filled with 5 gal gas can, ouboard and picnic stuff off we'd go to the lake every Saturday during the summer( oh the memories).

The one thing we usually don't have is space for storage and from what it looks like, you do have some room, even if its outside. From the way it is sitting it looks to have an engine! It is a nice color combination as well. If you cant get the engine loose in the other one this may be a candidate!! You would be a great fit for the adoption. Cheers !

Is there any way you could trailer it home yourself and save some of that cost?

Ralph, if it sounds like fun and you have that feeling in your gutt, go for it. Life is only so long. Enjoy.

It wouldn't be a donation would it if you put a fund me "Save the Merc" on FB? People give to stranger things and you have great video's. It needs a good home.
