Default 40 pickup rear fenders?

Does anyone supply good quality reproduction rear fenders (steel) for a '40 Ford pickup? Or... patch panels for same?

I agree with Skidmarks. Lots of new fiberglass available, but no new steel that I am aware of.

Steel fenders are not available. The only patch panels that I am aware of come from EMS. If someone would make those fenders customers would be standing in line. Once in a while you see fenders at swap meets, but they need tons of work. Makes me glad my 41 has real nice rear fenders.

Other than a gas filler hole do the same fenders fit '42-'47 half tons as well?

I picked up some fender reported to be off a 42 - 47 and the only thing that I see being different is no gas filler hole. The fenders weren't attached and I believe that I have earlier fenders. I'm told the connection at the running board will be different as well. I got onto the metal meet forum and am learning how to fab my own patch panels.

No, there's a difference in width between the two fenders.

Were at? I know the 3/4 and 1 ton are bigger . I have used the later 1/2 ton 42-47 and changed the bottom at the running board and used on a 40 without any issue

The 3/4 and one ton fenders are not only bigger, but much narrower as well. There is a wheel housing or tub in the 8' box that doesn't exist on the 1/2 ton.

That is the difference. When the question was posed I should have been a little more detailed. I didn't want anyone to think they would bolt right up.

Re 1938-41 and 1942-47 1/2 ton pickup rear fender differences.

The fenders have the same basic shape (width, height, and length). The major difference is where the running board attaches.

The 1938-41 running board is about 3" tall and the outside is flush with the outside of the fender. There is a notch on the front to match the mount flange profile of the running boards.

The 1942-47 running board is about 1-1/2" tall and the outside of the running board is about 1" inside the outside profile of the fender. The fender is flared to transition to the running board, and there is no notch as the running board mount flange is at the bottom of the fender side to side.

The 1938-41 right hand fender had a tire dimple, the 1942-47 did not.

The shape of the inside of the fender between the running board and the bed is quite different, but who cares as you never see that on a finished truck anyway.

The 1938-41 fenders can be cut down (on the inside) to fit the 1/2 ton panel. 1942-47 cannot as the panel fender was extended down in the back 1-2" relative to the pickup fender.

Yes Martha, you can convert a 1942-47 pickup fender to a 1938-41, but why destroy a perfectly good original part when there a good fiberglass ones available (LOL).

Ok. For some reason you had me thinking I missed something all together.
