Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
While I have the floor pan removed from my 46 to swap out the tranny mount, I removed the inspection cover to take a look inside and see some oil and grime on the throw-out bearing and spring. Would it do any harm if I was to spray a little brake cleaner spray in there? Thanks. Steve

Re: Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
The throw out and spring can use a little lubricant. The brake cleaner is going to strip off any lube it contacts.
Maybe you can just wipe it with a rag? |

Re: Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
If brake cleaner works its way into the Bearing it will dilute what ever grease is in it, i would say no. ken ct.

Re: Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
Thanks Ken. I didn't apply any spray and closed the cover. The floor is back in and hopefully she will be back on the street by the weekend.

Re: Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
Thanks Vic. While the floor was out, I also checked tightness of the upper bell housing bolts and found two that needed a turn from my wrench. The old tranny mount rubber was trashed so hopefully the new mount will settle down the chatter. Steve

Re: Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
To clean the clutch plate you need to tie the clutch pedal down so pressure plate is released so the cleaner cleans the contact surfaces. When I was a teen we used a carbon tech fire extinguisher. Then when that dried in a few minutes we squirted a little fullers earth in with a battery filler rubber bulb and tube. This was when they were slipping from oil. G.M.

GM-We used to the same thing, I have even used the fullers earth on brake shoes in fork lifts that have hydraulic fluid leaks. On some industrial equipment I have blown in blasting sand to quiet squeeks on disc brakes

Re: Brake Cleaner Spray on Clutch
alan, I recently learned learned food grade fullers earth kills cock roaches. It is very fine silica sand and has very sharp edges. When they walk through it it gets in their joints and kills them ?? Also supposed to kill silver fish.
