Wind pressure on wiper arm

I, uh got caught in the rain on a tour. Well I have a semi usefull vacuum wiper that did wel for what it is. I was thinking about maybe soldiering a small 'air dam' on the arm to use the wind to keep it on the glass. What do you all think? Will it work or would I need a huge air dam for it tao actually work?

Rain-x, my dads van wipers quit working in the rain, he then remembered me talking about rain-x, he put it on and made it home.

yup rain x all the way. do they still sell the little bottle of pure rain x? not the spray bottle of window cleaner with rain x...

Old stuff came in like a lighter fluid plastic bottle you squirted out and buffed onto the windshield. waited till it clouded then buffed it off. Lasted a VERY long time as it sat in all the micro pores and scratches.

Just used it on my GMC motorhome, works way better than the wipers if you are moving into the wind. Drove about 900 miles in rain, never used the wipers once. Came in a spray bottle, but not a cleaner type, so I assume it is the original. Got it at Wally World.

Yep, they still sell the original bottle just bought some last week at the parts store. Great stuff

Back in the '70s when I bought my first (modern-ish) car, you could buy plastic snap-on attachments for your wiper arms that had several fins designed to catch the wind and create greater pressure on the windscreen wiper. They were designed for wipers that pivoted from the bottom, not the top, although I suppose you could mount them upside down on a Model A. To tell the truth, I don't think they made any difference but they looked cool to an 18 year old! They would look decidedly uncool on an A!

I use Rainex, not the wipers.

Rainex doesn't work in the snow. You need a wiper for snow.

Last summer on the way to the NW Regional Meet My wiper arm flew off. A touring Buddy had some rainex and quickly applied it on our windshield. Although it is a good product my wiper blade now bumps across the glass. Sooo you either leave well enough alone...........LOL

Yes I love Rain-X. But was just wondering about something to make the blade somewhat more efficient. It actually did a halfway decent job though. But it did skip a bit.

Yup... my feeling is with Rainex you lose gliding efficiency. The skinny arms are not beefy enough to move the blade. That's why my inference was one of either Rainex or wiper but not both. I have been toying with the idea of the new electric units. At $300.00 they can cure a lot of misery.

Why can't you use a Ford wiper blade and arm from the 40's on a Model A? It should be allowed under the safety exception. The original Model A arm puts very little downward pressure on the wiper blade. It was designed in the early years of wiper technology and probably was just as ineffective when they were new.
