Default 36 ford 5 window quarter windows

I recently purchased a nice 36 (5) window which had the quarter windows all gooped up and didn't fit right. I spent a day cleaning up all the goop and ordered new Carpenter rubber. The problem is I still have a gap between body and the glass rubber after installing the garnish moldings. Anyone had a similar problem, and if so, how did you fix?

Sounds like the glass might be to small.

Sounds like you don't have the windows seated in the opening properly, i.e. the should fit snug to the "flat" of the window opening. On my '36 coupe, the overlapping, spot welded sheet metal around the opening needed to be "massaged" a bit to allow the window to fit snug to the outside. Your windows may need to be made a little smaller-- a good auto glass shop can do that for you. Good luck. Rod

I had a similar experience with my 36 5W Coupe and although the glass is close to the inside of the window opening, it was not made to be tight. I had about 1/8" space that was not uniform around the window rubber. I used 3M Rope Caulk that will never harden and is designed for this application. I was told by a glass company to never use silicon between glass and body since it will attract moisture and promotes rust.

Thanks for all the comments, I have a professional window installer coming, maybe he can figure out the best option.
