Door dovetail
Purchased door bumpers etc for 29 coupe but may have the wrong one. Could someone take a close up photo of their door so I can see how it all fits in. I am looking at part#A61412B in macs catalog but the rubber I have is obviously , it is more of a U shaped block. Thanks

Re: Door dovetail
I have a '29 Coupe also, and have filed, sanded, heated, and cut more than a few of these bumpers trying to exact a fit that works, and looks halfway decent.
The photo is the drivers side, the passenger side is the "project" side.. alas, still minus bumper and metal strip. Good luck in your efforts, and if you find a solution, let me know.. I think the original assembly of the parts was before the door moved too far on the assembly line.! kb |

Re: Door dovetail
Ok, so what does this assembly do? Does the brass insert fit tight to the dovetail when the door is closed, for alignment and to hold it from rattling.

Re: Door dovetail
The dovetail holds the door in position so it does not sag or rattle. as kb said, the new parts do not fit. I sand the flat part of the rubbers on a belt sander to fit. The strip originally was spring brass but is now soft. I use needle nose pliers to bend and force it in.
Mine is a 30 but are similar John

Re: Door dovetail
Vern,
Your photo questioning 'what are these holes for' shows a missing flat finishing plate that is screwed in place on the body, above the door. Maybe someone with same coupe could post a picture of that area. JB |

Can any one post a photo of what that bumper looks like, in place?

Thanks John. I have a '29 Sport Coupe and originally bought what Mac's said were the right parts but the metal clip is way too long. I then purchased what they said was for a 1930 and it's what you show in the photo. You have the rubber parts upsidedown compared to some recommendations but it works well this way! Thanks. *** I actually found a source for parts that fit much better. They are Vintique A-702610-AS which I purchased from Smith and Jones Antique Auto Parts, 60 Wisconsin St., West Columbia, SC 29170. I'll try to upload a couple photos. Re: Door dovetail
As John in Illinois pointed out, the available replacement metal pieces of the female dovetail are too soft. Does anyone know of a source of "springy" ones, or A MODERN REPLACEMENT for the dovetail?
