GL-3 or anything you find today marked GL-1 usually says GL-1/GL-3 has EP additives big difference is that they have zinc based EP additives (ZDDP/ZDTP) like a motoroil where GL-4 has Phosphorus (SP) based EP additives.
If you want to read up on it oil tribology is fascinating and you learn that modern oil is dictated by a lot of other factors then perfomance...mostly enviroment rules.
