Default Hood Lock

Would like to lock my hood when on travel, but don't want pins in the hood or a chain/lock hanging down. Anyone with a 55/56 car come up with an attractive & practical solution?

Nearly 40 years ago I had something like this. Key operated, under the dash. Also shorted the ignition out. I'm not recommending this it's just the first similar one that came up on Amazon. It could be done a lot cheaper with a Morse Cable or something similar.

Could an electric door lock solenoid be fitted to block the existing latch mechanism?

^^even a better idea. Suicide door locks. Just make sure they're locking, no current draw when locked.

Mechanical cable might be better in case of dead battery or short circuit.
