Road trip - past two non model A trucks
I took a road trip from the Los Angeles area to Northern California and back.
On the way, I past two old trucks being moved on trailers. Hopefully the pictures are not too large. Can anyone tell me what year and model these trucks are? Thanks, Neil |

I knew it was a Chevy. I took a quick look and I don't think it had a split windshield.
The Chevy looked like a running car. Not sure if the Ford was. |

I had a 60's Ford pickup, but couldn't afford the 6 miles per gallon it gave me, so I sold it after just 2 months of ownership.

First truck is an F100 unibody, 1963. I dont think they made them in 65/66 ( Ford had a few of them that were "lightweight" racers for the drag strip). Chevy looks like maybe 53 or 54. Hard for me to tell without seeing the front end.

Re: Road trip - past two non model A trucks
If the Chevy had a 1-piece windshield, it is a '54 or a 1st model '55. Later 55's were a complete different truck. When an owner came into the dealership the quick way to verbally ascertain which 55 he had was to ask if it was 6 or 12 volt. Different body, open drive shaft, etc.

Re: Road trip - past two non model A trucks
My son-in-law's father has one of the old uni-body trucks from the early 1960's. They apparently fell out of favor because of uneven weight distributions in the pickup bed that would/could affect door alignment and even result in possible unexpected door openings. If anyone has attempted standard phaeton door alignment, you will certainly understand this principle. Once you get the front driver's door to work properly, it may throw the alignment out on the rear passenger door, etc., etc.
