Default Modified '40 Shock Arms?

I've been looking for a set of functional '40 shocks. Got some that had nice action and were '40 Ford, however the front arms had been heated and bent slightly inboard. The rears had been offset but far less offset. Most of us have seen later Houdailles modified for earlier cars with a radical offset but these were barely noticeable and got my $40 in a hurry. I'll be using these but want to put them back to the right angle. Can these arms be straightened by hammering and perhaps a bit of heat near the tip without breaking? Seems there must have been some application that called for this mild offset. Any thoughts? Fred A

Fred, Proper arms are readily available. I'd suggest taking the guesswork out of correcting yours and simply replacing them (arms).

Are they easily taken off-and-on-able?

Mart.

You'll need to grind away the tiny weld and utilize a small puller. I'd mark the orientation just to be "safe".

I've been busy flushing out shocks with Kerosene and looking for the "tiny weld". Sure not seeing it. In the process am finding a great way to get a lot more rubble out of the shock bodies through shaft valve removal and using air to blast the kerosene out that way. Seems there is little end to the corruption inside. It's now smoother than ever. Thanks: Fred A
