Default Switching bumper 1930

Has anyone tried switching the front bumper to the rear on a 30/31 A? Just thinking out loud.

I have seen that done a couple of times. Kind of like a one piece bumper/spare tire gaurd. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...earchByKeyword

I remember seeing someone do that on a pickup. Didn't look bad, better than no bumber IMO.

31 fordor came this way. Easy to bolt up. Same as front bumpers.

With fender mounted spare tires would give full protection across the rear.

I added one to my Tudor, a little more protection, if the rear spare tire got bumped it could wrinkle the back panel, it's almost invisible

I read somewhere that a full length rear bumper was an option in 30/31. It may have been dealer installed. One of the books has pictures but I do not remember where. i will have to look.

I thought the factory installation of solid rear bumpers were reserved for DeLuxe vehicles such as 40B, 180A, 400A, et/al after the length of bumpers were decreased to 60" in late 1930. Naturally a dealer could have installed them as an accessory but not sure they would have been standard on a Fordor. Am I wrong??

"Henry's Lady" page 234 in the section on the 1931 Convertible Sedan shows a full width rear bumper and writes "...standard on the Convertible Sedan and Deluxe Phaeton."

Cool Re: Switching bumper 1930

My April, '31 deluxe roadster has a full width bumper. I believe it is original to the car because the rust on it matches the rusty front bumper! The
June, 1929, Ford Service Bulletin shows a pic of a closed car with the new truck rack on the back. With a full rear bumper and the proper '29 center clamp. Nothing in the ad. is mentioned about the rear bumper though.

Brent. You are right. I doubt if fordors came with full length rear bumpers as well. I bought this car 3 months ago and it came this way. Pretty sure some previous owner did the switch. Sorry for the confusion. mike
