Default New tires for my 36- which ones should I buy?

After a long, almost 3 years in Body and Paint shop jail, I'm about to get my car back. The last high speed run (over 65) on the Ford script bias plys that are on the car now gave me the inclination to seek out some radial tires.
I am currently running stock 36 artillery wheels, and will prolly keep them as I cannot find wide 5 15" wheels without a good deal of trouble, and don't want to re-redo the brakes/front end since it's all new.
I do NOT plan to put Big n' Littles on the car, as I am looking for the speedboat stance more common to an earlier era. Stock height front spring and a reversed eye Posie rear/ 2 leaves removed with longer shackles is where I'm headed.
Diamondback seems to be the most agreed upon best choice of tire manufacturer.
My question is:
Should I go for the 600/16 stock tire or something a bit wider and if so, what is the current size designation to ask for?
Do I need tubes?
All opinions and suggestions are welcome, so hit me!

I'll be watching for responses to this thread. I wanted 16" radials on stock wheels and couldn't find a narrow radial tire without going to Coker, and I won't go there. Wider tires make steering these old cars even more difficult.

I run radial tires, and several friends of mine do, from Ecopia a Bridgestone/Firestone Tire made for an electric car. Same dia. as a 6:00 16" tire. these are high pressure tires ans I would not have anything else, they are black wall tires but I also planning on putting some diamondback radials on a 40 coupe as the owner prefers whitewall

I forgot to mention that I am looking to put wide whites back on the car. It really needs them to look right!
D-back has something that should work but $300 each is something I don't want to make a mistake on!!

New radial WWs are steep price wise but the 600-16s pop up often enough on the HAMB used. Some sets are brand new.

The Ecopia tire is a good one. I run Austone tires from Universal Tire on my avatar. In actuality they are British taxi cab tires and can definitely take a beating. They run a tad shorter than 600-16s - more like 175-16s but do not come in a WW. I can attest to their durability - I've had them on my avatar since around April of '16. Went to the LA Roadster show, Pueblo CO for the Rocky Mountain Nats, Austin TX for the Line Star Roundup, Adirondack Nats twice, and many other places in-between. That's getting up around the 25k if hard driving. They are a really good tire.

I balance my tires using Dynabeads - google them. They work very well with bias tires as well as radials. Once done, they ride smooth and never have to be balanced again.

Good luck ...

TomT, are you running original rims or aftermarket with the Austone tires? What size/brand tires are you running on the rear?

This Post/thread might help. JMO, I thought Coker and Diamond back retro look radials 2 B way too expensive and have heard issues on both regarding balancing issues. Researched / experimented to find the look i wanted, the ride and more normal cost. I went bigger on rear smaller on front but u could pick modern size in the middle of mine for same size front and rear. the thread has all the spec's

On my avatar I am running wide 5s all around and on the 5-window project, mid 30s Plymouth artillery wheels. Rear tires are 235/85-R16, Uniroyals on the Avatar and Durvais on the project.None if the rims are bigger than 4.5". I use head sealer and the Dynabeads - no problems.

While they are talking about 16" tires over on the Model A forum, suggestion to read the full description before you buy;

At the least, you may want to try using a black "SHARPIE" or some other way of coloring those wheel weights BLACK so they don't stand-out like a huge sore thumb. Otherwise, your tires/wheels look nice. DD

Just had some Excelsior radials mounted 500/16 and 700/18's and had no balance problems. I also have them 500/16 and 750/16's on my deuce pu and deuce roadster and they ride and drive great. Only draw back I can see with them is their price.
