Would I qualify as a shade tree mechanic if I used a pine tree instead of an oak to pull a steering wheel?

No Bill, I remember this old fellow told me that the rubber sole on my hunting boots would have cleaned the nail before it went through my foot. I was a lot tougher back then and I think the good Lord watches over dummies and little pups.

Lona,
Use "search" to find my SURE-FIRE wheel removal method, taught to me by an Old Dutchman.
I "laboriously" tiped it out in GREAT detail Since then, I have NEVER had to use a puller or BANG on one. (TIP# 187)

Bill,

When I was trying to get that steering wheel off a year or so ago, I posted asking for ideas to remove it and you kindly replied describing your method. Not being a wimp in the muscle category, I tried as you suggested several times but it would not budge. That is why I resorted to the tree and winch to break it loose.

I always enjoy reading about your Model A adventures and ideas how to fix things using unorthodox but common sense methods.
