62 TBird Driver’s Seat move back farther
Good day.
Does anyone have experience moving the driver’s seat on a 1962 TBird back farther. Electric seat controls. I need more leg room. Thank you for any assistance and knowledge. Kris |

Pull the seat assembly out of the car, (4 bolts access from under), remove the lower cushion from the seat frame (4 bolts) and relocate the holes further to the rear. The seat skirt may cause an issue if you go more then 2". The picture is the seat frame unbolted from the seat cushion.

Ford blue blood. Are the holes predrilled or do they need to be drilled. (Drilled in the track?)
Also I read somewhere that there are two nuts from the underside and two from the inside of the vehicle. Have you come across this? Thank you! |

https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/phpBB3/index.php Ford at one time did have two sets of holes in the lower seat cushion to allow the seat assembly to be move back 2" or so. I had thought this was also the case on '61'-'63 bucket seats used in Galaxies, Falcons, 'Birds, etc., but it's been some time since I've had a spare set to check. Most people unbolt the seat cushion from the rack/slide mechanism, or remove the seat track from the floor, and add plates/holes/bolts to allow them to move the cushion/seat rearward, then reassemble. How one person did this for a '64 T-bird can be found here: https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.n...eg+room#p48970 There are other methods people have used that can be found by using the 'Search' function of the VTCI Forum with some keywords like 'leg room' but many of those point to issues with '55-'57 T-bird seat frames.

Re: 62 TBird Driver’s Seat move back farther
The holes in the seat bracket are stock from the factory. Carefully measure back 1 - 2" and drill new holes. May have to weld a small extension to the front mounts. Also check for "extra holes in the seat cushion as Alan referred to.
Alan the 63 Bird seats I used in my Ranchero only have one set of holes in the seat cushion.

Re: 62 TBird Driver’s Seat move back farther
This is what we did. Metal bars with two adjustments. 2.5" and 5" drilled for moving closer or farther if we want.
Attached seat to the bars and then to the body by different length grade 8 bolts from underneath the car. The two factory studs were removed. The metal bars were threaded to accept the Grade 8 bolts. The added legroom is wonderful. Last edited by 1962ThunderbirdRocket; 07-12-2021 at 10:14 PM. Reason: Typo |
