Default Speedometer Cable Oozing Grease

About a foot up from the bottom of my speedometer cable grease is oozing out. What is the fix for this?? Could this possibly be from the transmission being overfilled?? Thanks

Could be too full, this is not normal.

Check the winding direction on the cable. I read that some years back there were cables made with the outer layer wound in such a direction that it spun the gear oil up the shaft. I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets inside the car or makes a big mess.

Maybe your outer cable housing has a split to the inside

Is the cable outer broken to allow the grease to escape?

It's the U-joint that filled with grease. There is the story about the car that taken in for oil and lube. The teck pumped so much grease in the U-joint housing that it got all the way up to the speedometer and filled it!

Just today, I found my speedo cable on my cabriolet was oozing oil out the top, at the speedometer connection and then dripping back onto the shifter boot! I cleaned it up and took it for a 20 mile drive on the interstate, came back home and even more had dripped out of the top of the cable and onto my pants leg. Going to have to look at the seal tomorrow. I have been driving the car for a while without such a problem, but only recently started going on the freeway and up to 60mph, then the problem.
