It sounds like the accelerator pump on the carb is not working or not working good enough. You should see two squirts of fuel down the carb bore by the booster clusters (assuming this is a V8) as soon as you move the throttle. Any lag means slopply accel pump linkage or internal issue in the carb.

Could also be incorrect ignition timing.

Years ago I converted my '53 Ford Convertible with Ford-O-Matic to a two carb set up. All the information I could get, mostly from Hot Rod magazines from the '50's warned against using more than two carbs (I run Holly 94's) with the Ford-O-Matic... I can't remember the reasons (CRS strikes again) but, the two carb set up with a Mallory dual point distributor (no vacuum advance) worked really well.

By the title I assume this is a Ford-O-Matic car. The old Borg Warner automatics had no form of vacuum modulation. Control for shift was set up with linkages to the throttle. The linkage adjustments get more complicated with more carburetors and may also need some scrutiny on how well this function will work with multiple carburetors to get the shifting right. Starting out in 2nd gear doesn't help either.

Tonydennisadw, it's like the people replying to this never read you're original post. Went from dual carbs to replacing you're carb with a 94, which is what you have already. I still stand by my post.

scicala Sal if i rem correctly 60 some years ago retarding would make it run flatter clockwise,) and advancing counter clockwise would give more zip response what i dont remember is what does too much advance cause..also dont have a timing light and never did know how to use one so always did by trial and error......supposed to be to be close to 60 tomm so back to the car...thanks dennis

The crank pulley only has one little dot to time the engine to but you would need a timing light strobe to do it. Those old 8BA 94 type carbs can have problems if they set around too long. We have no idea what the situation was for the carbs you tried. The leather cup might be hard or the passages might be gummed up for the accelerator pumps. It sounds like you have enough parts to make a good one anyway as long as the internal passages are all real clean. Vacuum leaks at the carb base can give you trouble as well.
