Default Goodyear tire markings

I noticed from the photos posted recently some of the Blue ribbon 30/31 cars running Goodyears, have a white band on them. I can only come up with one period photo showing this feature. Can anyone enlighten me on this.

It is actually a silver band inside of the double ring on the tire.

I watches Jim Brand painting the stripe on some tires at Oshkosh. Since silver paint doesn't hold up well Jim said he mixes some light gray with it for added durability.

That was a feature originally published by Enrique Kline on model A tires. It was based on records from Goodyear. However my research indicates that was was a feature of Goodyear Deluxe All Weather tires sold through typical retail channels but not on tires provided or sold through Ford.

So this means not needed for fine point judging and should be incorrect if NOT provided or sold through Ford.

In the 1997 revision the stripe was specified for 1931 models. That was dropped in the new revision.

Thanks for the replies guys, it confirmed my thinking for my Sept '31 car. One less job I have to worry about.
