Default 28 Leatherback and Pop-out Switch Fit

I found an original retired pop-pit switch fro my 28 Leatherback project. Installed I cannot get the dash panel to sit properly so it can be screwed in. The body of the switch is hitting the gas tank so the dash panel will not sit flush. What am I missing or doing wrong? Was there a specific pop-out for the 28's?? Any help is appreciated!

Do you have the correct one for use with the oval speedometer?

if it is a repro, dash panel, some are put together at the wrong angle. sometimes you can elongate the holes and turn the pop out a little. some can be a real pain.

I believe it is the correct one for the oval dash. I have one on my 29 pickup and thinking of POPPING OFF THE DASH PANEL TO TAKE A LOOK.

The correct popout for the oval dash does NOT have a crimped cover on the backside.

I've attached pictures of the switch. I believe it is correct. Appreciate the thoughts and advice.

According to one of my sources, original oval panels are ALWAYS marked "Germany" on the back side near the hole.

According to the story, Ford subcontracted MANY parts of the Model A and bought in bulk, and would always choose a low bidder. By 1928 Ford had developed sources overseas of which at least this one was German.

Or this may be one of the tid-bits erroneously put out by an over eager seller looking to unload a rusted oval panel - one of the few Model A parts seen at the last Epping Dragway Flea Market on April 28.

I confess I had not heard this one before.

The repop panels are known for being "shallow."

The word "always" is a dead give away. The word always fits when referring to the fact the Ford "always" had more than one supplier plus their own production if it was necessary. The cost for such a small part to be moved all the way across the ocean would negate the need to use a supplier from Germany.
