Model "A" greeting in The Netherlands!

Arriving yesterday by river cruise in Kinderdijk to visit the famous windmills, we were greeted by a passing '30 or '31 Tudor sedan who was driving along the canal sounding his ahooga horn. So... Who ever you are, you made my own International Model A Day, albeit a few days early!

If you have on-land transportation while in the Netherlands, and are suffering from Model A withdrawal, you should go visit the "Den Hartogh Ford Museum" in Hillegom (up north toward Amsterdam). They have a bajillion Model A's, Model T's and many other pre-war Fords. It holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the largest private collection of Ford vehicles.

i travel a significant amount both for pleasure and business. I make several trips each year to the Caribbean and I have been on each of the islands. I have never seen a Model A on any of the islands. I visit Cuba regularly and I have never seen a pre 1950 car. You were indeed very lucky to see an A in the Netherlands. Wayne.

Is that a town car delivery in the red picture? And the 29 business coupe in the black picture is a rare find in Europe. I had heard they were made for US sales only.

I've been to The Netherlands several times in the last 20 years and didn't know about that museum.

933 1929 Business Coupes were assembled in the Foreign markets. 696 in Europe alone including England. The rest in Mexico and South America.

None were recorded for the Canadian market in 1929.

USA had 37644 in 1929.

Thanks Pluck. I think in my foggy mind I had conflated the Canadian info with all foreign mfg. I didn't even consider the Mexican and South American markets, which logically would have also made them. But do you know why none were made for the Canadian market? What about Australia? Also, do you know if the US figure was all 1929 54A's, or only those with the oval windows? I have been told the oval window was introduced in about March of '29.

Not sure on the introduction of the Oval BC. Being told one thing and having absolute proof is another...One can research it out very easily by looking at the PARTS involved and their Part Release dates...but then again, without something issued by Ford telling us about the introduction we are only pissing in the wind.

Do not know why there were no figures for the Canadian market in 1929...Along with that, there were none reported in 1928 either. I wonder why myself...Any of you Canadians know why?

I just had a visit from a Canuck who is doing a 54A, but he didn't say whether it was Canadian, and I didn't ask. I'll email him and let you know what he says.

Could be for the same reason as happens today. The American company keeps the lucrative builds in the US and exports to Canada rather than allowing the Canadian operation develop the home market.
