oil out of the carburetor
My 31, stock, completely restored 10 yrs ago with absolutely no significant problems. Yesterday (warm here 95) I first noted the car heating up more than normal, then white oil smoke out the tail pipe. Stopped at a friends shop and opened the passenger hood and oil everywhere. Thought it was the oil tube or plastic oil gauge tube but both ok. Took off the air filter and oil coming out the carb. The engine still runs. No bad noises. Checked the dip stick, still plenty of oil. Started it again and sure enough----oil from the carb. Where is the most likely breach???? Someone must have seen this before. Thanks anyone Bruce

Re: oil out of the carburetor
Oil smoke is blue. White smoke is water.

Re: oil out of the carburetor
Has the motor been over hot any time? I agree with the comment that it could be a cracked block and the vacuum is sucking oil into the inlet passages. If you're lucky, it might only be a blown head gasket

Re: oil out of the carburetor
Rather than a cracked block maybe a very worn valve guide or two?

Re: oil out of the carburetor
I don't mean to hijack the thread. But, I use Marvel Mystery Oil in my '31 roadster. And most of the time I feel the bottom of the carb before I open
the gas petcock, car is a late '31. You know checking for leakage. Usually I find a little what feels like the Marvel oil?!? Car runs great with no smoke. Am I just putting to much Marvel oil in the gas? Using the Marvel oil took care of a vapor lock problem I had. Bob-A |

Re: oil out of the carburetor
Here is another string about MMO. Includes adding MMO through the vacuum fitting port on the intake manifold for a quicker fix of sticky valves.
