Default Transmission tower switch question

Would there be any issues with putting a 28 shift tower on a later transmission like a 30-31?

It will fit, but your brake linkage (E-brake) will need to be lengthened.

I think the alignment left-right is the same.

The shift lever is bent different on some & the hand brake placement from none to middle to right side..

I should have been more specific as it would be an early 28 tower that does not have the parking brake handle on it but rather the service brake handle is to the left of the driver.

Only difference, the inside would be the same except the spring may have a felt and spacer cap on it.. The outside would have no place for your hand brake set up..

As in you'll have to find a E-brake cross shaft with the necessary landing point (lever) for the pull rod coming back from the new emergency brake on the right hand side of the Tranny.

Well, that brings up the question - does your 28 Model A HAVE an emergency brake? Many did not although Ford did institute a policy of adding emergency brakes to cars without. Pennsylvania led the way by banning registration of the "New" Model A until E-brakes were added. So Ford was kind of "pushed" to the design change.

In 1932, Ford went back to service brakes only and no dedicated emergency brake shoes. Both the brake pedal rod and the emergency brake handled rod were attached to arms that were part of the same cross shaft.

This is essentially the same system Ford used for the early 28's.

Thanks for all of the replies. It looks like putting a shift tower without the hand brake onto a later transmission is something that would work.
