Turn Signal Buzzer
A few week ago there was some info put on here about a 6/volt buzzer available at Radio Shack, part # 2730793. I purchased this unit. The little grey box has 2 small wires. One black and one red. Can anyone help with a wiring diagram on how to hook this up to the flasher? This will be used on my '51 Ford Coupe.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
When I installed a buzzer on my 12V system, I soldered one buzzer wire to one terminal of the flasher and the other buzzer wire to the other flasher terminal. Then plugged the flasher back in. It works. Use alligator clips and give it a try.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
Red is normally positive and black negative but no idea if the buzzer is sensitive to polarity. If you want to keep the polarity stright conneny the red to ground and the black to a hot. The flasher connector going to the turn signal should work for the hot and then the red wire to a good ground.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
I used diodes to block the reverse voltage on both sides. G.M.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
My Radio Shack buzzer was so annoying I took it out and moved the flasher unit closer so I could hear it ticking. Tape and band aids didn't work for me. I remember posts where fellows said they put the buzzers either in their trunk or engine compartment.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
JC Whitney used to have an extra loud flasher. I bought one it it woks ok and not annoying. It was 12 volt, they might have a 6 volt.

I wrapped mine in several layers of foam rubber to tone it down.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
mine is mounted to a spring clip that attaches directly to the dash. I can hear the "click" loud and clear. Clip was on the car when I got it. Used to see them ni the 50's and 60's.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
Radio Shack buzzers are good for 3v to 20v. They are polarity sensitive. I put one wire to ground and then activated the turn signal and touched the other wire to different posts on the flasher to get the buzzer to work. The idea of the buzzer is to make noise louder than the wind whistle and the rattles of the old Fords.

I got one from MAC's and it works fine. You won't leave it on long.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
This is an old thread - one of many on this subject that I looked up and followed. I just installed a Radio Shack buzzer by soldering the red wire to the X terminal and black wire to the L terminal on my 3 pin flasher. I saw many people on these threads complain about how loud their buzzers were, so I made sure I bought the quietest one I could. The one I bought is a 76 dB Piezo Buzzer. I see they also have 85 and 100 dB buzzers. Those might be what others used. I am pleased with the 76 dB one. It is loud enough that you hear it under the dash and want to turn it off but not so obnoxious it bothers you. I velcroed the buzzer to the top of the flasher can.
After I bought it I found this thread that says that Mac's has a flasher with buzzer integrated for both 6 and 12 V systems. I see on-line they are still available. I probably would have purchased that if I had known about it, but they are fairly costly. They were $27 for the 12 V and over $30 for the 6V. I took my car out for a drive today and am happy with the outcome. No more driving down the road with the turn signal on for me! Thought I would share this in case anyone else wants to install a turn signal buzzer. |

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
With my crooked and shaky hands, mine was a bugger to install. And, YES. It's a loud little sucker. LOL

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
You can always wrap them in many turns of tape to quiet them down a bit.

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
Cutting a wire quiets them nicely. Why spend money to install a 'click notifier' the first place.
I can't hear the turn signals in any of my other cars cuz I keep the radio nice and loud and don't think I'm missing anything. In fact every 20 years or so, I might forget to cancel a left (or right heaven forbid) and have a nice lady wave at me, meet good people this way. I've got it...hook it up the the horn! Sorry but with that thought I popped a button. |

Re: Turn Signal Buzzer
Forget just once and some idiot will pull out on you from a side street thinking you are turning.
A buzzer in a car that does not self cancel should be mandatory. |
