I'm running Firestones but only because they were in it when I bought it. They run fine so far I've driven maybe 1500 miles.
I'm going to put in the Repo Champion 3X's soon.

Duke, since I installed my 5.5 head it seems to run rich with 3X (No other changes). Did you find the same? and that is why you run the W18's. I was thinking of trying the W18. Thanks

See Larry Brumfield post of 6-29-10 for info. on plugs.
YBlock, our 5.5 w/ W18's (new no. 518) runs a nice tan color and the price is right per plug. We ran TT10's for awhile and the car likes the 518's with a Marvel carb. Note this is w/ FS zipper ignition which we're going to change back to modern points due to advance issues on hills and see how that works. Also, I use small amounts of lead substitute and ethanol stabilizer in gas (but not sure how much effect that has.).

Lot's of discussion/opinions about heat range, etc. We tried different plugs we had on hand to see what works for our set up, so others may have different experiences.

ANYTHING with the right heat range & burns CLEAN!
There are NO "MAGIC" Spark plugs!
Driving with "GUSTO", helps to keep plugs running CLEAN.
LOOOONG idling sessions crap them up.

I am having no problems.
I have used both the champions and autolite, but prefer the champions due to their size/looks.
They seem to have a better appearance on top of the engine then the skinny autolite plugs
I was just curious as to what others were running.
And yes, I am totally stock.

Hello Gang,

My car is currently running Champion C-16 C plugs. I pulled them out and they look a little worse for wear. The center electrode is noticeably worn out near the ground electrode. I planned on replacing the plugs with Champion 3X's as recommended here.

Should I have any concern with such a swap? If I should start my own thread for this question, I will. Don't mean to step on anyone's toes.

Thank you for your time,
Ted

I've been running either 3X's or W18's (518) for years and here is a picture showing one reason why. Don't try this at home unless you have a lot of hacksaw blades.

I am still running C 16 C in the car that I restored in the 70s, probably the key to all of them is having the mixture right.

Purdy,

Good to hear from you and hope you and yours are all okay too. I still owe you one for that Simmons throttle shaft you gave me! I'm giving a Pertronix 40111 coil to a good friend for Christmas. I'm even going to say I
will install it for him. To prove to him it is the way to go, for Model-A's
on the go!

Take care and please continue passing on all the Model-A wisdom you have.

The "new" 3X (Champion 429) is available, cost ~ $30.00-40.00 per, depending on where you buy them.

Cheapest I have seen them lately in Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/Champion-Plug...+3x+spark+plug

Default Re: Which plug do you run?

I just bought...I mean Santa is getting me the Pertronix Flame-Thrower coil, because I've been a very good boy this year.
I run the W-18's, but I found a new 3X plug online for $15 (free shipping), just need three more.
