1951 victoria hardtop frame help
Hi,
I recently acquired a 1951 ford hardtop.I'm 19 years old and have had my share of fords and mercurys but am exited to have traded for my first shoebox! I have gotten a pretty decent project car and plan on making a resto- rod with either a 292 y block or the good old flathead. However when i looked at the frame under the car I noticed it was a standard car frame . I have been told it was supposed to have a convertible "X" frame and my question is do i have the wrong frame ? I will also be needing seats if anyone has some . I am learning upholstery and would actually like the chance to make the back seat from sedan frame as long as i cant find one Any help would be greatly appreciated also feel free to voice any opinions on y block or flatty Thanks Daniel J . |

Re: 1951 victoria hardtop frame help
My 1951 ford Victoria has a standard frame. I believe only the convertible had an x frame. I have an extra rear window ( three piece Glass ) for the 51 Victoria contact me if you are interested.

Only the convertible had the "X" frame.
Here's some neat info about your car. http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/d...arID=10436&i=2 and http://www.automobile-catalog.com/ma...oria/1951.html Also, do your best to find and buy this book. http://www.chegg.com/textbooks/how-t...152-1878772155 Last edited by 19Fordy; 05-17-2016 at 03:01 PM. |

Re: 1951 victoria hardtop frame help
Fifty five years ago, when I was 17 years old, I bought a '51 Ford Vicky. I also thought it was supposed to have an "X" frame. Like you, I was surprised to find out it had a conventional ladder frame. Back then there were enough of them around that I could look under everyone I could find. Guess what? They all had ladder frames! Talk about history repeating its self!

Re: 1951 victoria hardtop frame help
I believe they made a few with the x frame. They also made them with a piece of bar stock welded on either the top or bottom of the rails. That is how mine is. I also have a back seat in metro Detroit if that will work

Re: 1951 victoria hardtop frame help
The Y block has a front sump oil pan that will interfere with the front frame crossmember. Not sure what the work-around is.

Re: 1951 victoria hardtop frame help
Wow, thanks for all the help I am really glad to hear the frame is correct ! I found a 51 vicky on my local craigslist cheap its rusted away but has good seats and automatic column so i will try to pick it up but if not I am located in Georgia and will be needing parts . I actually have a rebuilt 292 out of a truck with a 3 deuce intake ready to go I had it for my 50 merc but will probably use it for this car if i choose to use a Y block. That route would save me a lot of money which is in short supply as i am fresh out of high school. I know that a factory 3 speed column interferes with a Y block conversion linkage wise but I don't know about an auto column?
Thanks again for all the help Daniel J. |

I had a 51 Vicky in 1959. Lowered, White paint, pink and white inside. It had some steel plate welded on the bottom of the frame rails. Gary Troxel
