There were at least two good sized "junkyards" near me as a kid in the sixties. They were a fascinating place to explore when my dad needed to get a part for the car or truck. One vehicle that stuck in my mind was a little red sports car, might have been a convertible, but it had what looked like a Ford flathead v8 under the hood. The car did not look like any Ford product I had ever seen. More British.

they are still out there, but most of my favorite ones are gone. i always liked the country yards that were more of a combination of scrap yard/auto parts/dump where you may find anything. farm stuff, cars, trucks, need a new vintage floor lamp? got that too. how about a claw foot bath tub? yup, several in stock. like road signs?, well the county just dumped a load the other day...those days are gone
