Google 'Dynabeads' I run them in my 35 and can confirm they work very well....the fun part is fitting them

I don't know anything about dyno beads.

Not sure how they work if you cant put the wheels on a balance machine?

I have one of these with tapered lugs.

I use the counteract beads and they work great. Before you do anything have the Rims Trued. The rims went thru hell in the day. Mine had major side to side wobble. I had them trued by Rim True located in Hollis Maine. Doing that and adding 4 ounces of beads worked great. No more thrown weights causing damage. [I found out the hard way] Ray

I fitted dynabeads in my tyres on the 36.... very impressed with them. The car drives really smooth now.An added bonus is that they balance the whole rotating assembly not just the wheel/ tyre.

I put dyna beads in a motorcycle I built and had terrible vibration. When I removed them the vibration went away.

I used an adaptor plate and had my wide fives balanced with it.

I saved the outer part of the two piece wide five drums. The drums were no good so I saved the part that bolts to the wheel. I was going to use that just to get a visual on balancing my wheel. I have no idea if the wheels are good or not. Has anyone tried doing this? Thanks

I am lucky to have had a retired machinist friend, long past now, who made up several wide five adapter plates for our RG 1 members. He had a full machine shop in his basement, but advised that these could also be made with a simple drill press. Should someone do this, be sure to pre-balance the adapter plate itself.

These days, with big ugly lead free wheel weights, it's good to remember that if you determine the heavy side of your bare wheels, you can mount the tires accordingly to reduce the size and number of added weights. Not many tire shops will do that unless you specify and pay extra.

Alan...that reminds me....I've run 40 spoke Kelseys on my heap for years and they always needed weights, some more than others, in order to balance the mounted tire assemblies. I selected the best balance wise [those that needed the fewest weights], and got my tire guy to spin the bare rims up on his balancer. We used those little flat, self adhesive type weights, like what are used on mag wheels, and stuck them down in the well, to get the wheels as close as possible. Kelseys, by virtue of the spokes, need a 'rubber band' down in the well to protect the tube from chaffing, which just so happens to cover the adhesive weights and provide more security against them flinging off.
Then fitted the tires and tubes, and fitted 4 oz's of dynabeads into each tube [the fun part]. Result is that I can drive my car at any speed up to 90 MPH with no shimmy or vibration, plus no ugly wheel weights stuck around the rim.

Brian, That's an excellent idea. I'd be afraid to use those modern weights any other way, as I've heard they don't stick on very long.
