Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
I'm installing a Oiler like the one pictured below on my A-V8.

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
Mike, out of the box they are meant to install on the firewall or inner fender. I got the bright idea to mount mine off of the head like a stock oil filter. In fact, I am looking for it to be symmetrical with the filter. After I get it all together I will post a pic.

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
A top oiler is the perfect addition for a flathed engine. Use MMO, your engine will thank you.

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
GM, very cool label. I think that glass jar is purposely made tough to hold up. In the interest of just something different, I am thinking about the paint gun can idea. If I find it fits, I may have to steal your label for it.
For those looking for one, look on the 'bay for "top oiler", "engine oil vaporizer", etc. I saw one with a starting bid of only $9.99. Also, check out the long distance AMPCO can. That would be cool for someone who had a COE or big commercial vehicle, I think. |

New stickers and rebuild kits are available. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Oiler...2d8b2f&vxp=mtr Not sure if the middle one is cheap. I bought all mine before everyone jumped on the band wagon and the price went up.

There's a guy on the Judson website who sells repo stickers as well as complete rebuild kits for the Marvel Mystery Inverse Oilers, if anyone needs such information.

I would say yes they exist, as these kits were available for many cars. Would it be easy to find one, probably not. However, there were universal kits that allowed one to tap into an existing vacuum port on the manifold. You simply screwed in an adaptor with a tiny oriface. You ran tubing from that back to the oiler. I know I have an adaptor or two somewhere.

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
Yes, but will be awhile before I locate it and get a picture. We moved halfway across the US and some of my stuff is stored in my father's shop. Although it is only 180 miles away, finding time is the rub.

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
My NOS Shaler kit has a list of kits available effective Feb. 15, 1954 and states kits for both 53-54 Packard 4V carbs and 54 Chysler 4V carbs. I don't know if that included a base plate or if it had the aforementioned adaptors.

That's neat! I wonder if the hot sauce burns the exhaust tip on the way out?

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
You want to make sure the carb plate has holes into both throats. There are some that only has one hole into one port. This will only lubricate 4 cylinders. I "T"d into the vacume line for the Columbia rear on some of my cars. Attached is the 39 P/U and 39 convertible sedan useing the Columbia vacume line. G.M.

Re: Anyone using AMPCO top oiler?
Instructions that come with the Ampco oiler advise to put a coil or two in the line to absorb engine vibration and reduce hardening on the copper line.
