Default Ryan overdrive question

A friend recently purchased a Coupe with a Ryan overdrive. The speedometer is way off. We checked it with a GPS unit and at 50 mph the speedometer is only showing 42 mph. That is more than a 15% error. I did not check the odometer for accuracy. I would like to know if the Ryan overdrive had different speedometer gearing options.

I have a 23% Ryan in my Victoria and it is off by 4 miles. If I am gong 60 according to the speedometer actual speed is 56. This according to the GPS and the car was also checked by AAA a few years ago at a MAFCA national meet.

I also run a 23% Ryan with 3.78 rear end gears, and it may be off a tiny amount but not much. I asked Dan Ryan about what his OD was set for, speedo-wise. He said he only made the one ratio, and it was for the 3.78 rear end. Check your rear end ratio, and the driven gear on the front of the torque tube. It is possible that those gears are the wrong ones, and you can change ratios there.

it sounds like the speedo, check to see if you can turn the input shift of the speedo with your fingers. papanick
