AND he threw in the jacket off his back............Such a deal ! ! ! !

Unbelieveable prices that many cars went for. Nice to have deep pockets.

Just returned home from a funeral. John Schneider ( a.k.a. Bo Duke of Dukes of Hazard) was in attendence. I asked him if he had watched the sale to which he replied "No.... what did the Bat Mobile bring?" He knows George Barris well and mentioned that George has health issues and that was part of the reason for the sale. Needless to say... John was shocked when I told him what the car sold for...and commented "I wish I had waited to sell my car". He sold his Hemi Powered General Lee that was used in the reunion movie at BJ Auctions a few years back for $450,000.

But there's a huge difference between the General Lee and the Batmobile.

There's also a huge difference between the General Lee, the Batmobile and Model A's. You guys are on the wrong site!

You do realize the Batmobile was a Lincoln Futura which technically makes it valid for the late v8 section of the site.

I would loved to have seen the power plant of that Futura masquerading as a bat.
Probably not all that attractive being it was a T.V. car.

From what I heard it wasn't that impressive. Barris wasn't an engine guy he mostly just slapped stuff on to make it look fast.

And if that was in 28-31 dollars, that would really be something!

The General Lee wasn't really anything special. It was a slapped together charger with a gawdy paint job. The Batmobile was a completely original car and built by a Legend that's what makes it worth more.

The Batmobile was originally a Lincoln concept car that Barris later modified into the Batmobile from what I read.

Look at us, arguing on a web forum over fictional TV cars like the nerds on Big Bang Theory... Think it's time I go play outside![/QUOTE]

I did a report on the Big Bang Theory a couple years ago. I submitted proof in pictures.

Now where did that info come from?

I used to build & tour cars on the ISCA show car circuit back in the late 70's & early 80's, and I personally know several people who built General Lee cars specifically for use by Warner Brothers. There was a packet that a potential builder could obtain that listed out all the specs. to how the car was to be constructed. It also told how much they would pay for the car delivered. It was up to you to find a car and build it to their specs within the $$ budget they allotted. When you were done, you submitted it for purchase and if after inspection it met all the criteria, then they would cut you a check. While Barris may have also built one or two, the General Lee was NOT his brainchild or creation. It mght be worth adding that Geo. Barris took much credit for vehicles that he never actually constructed, ...and in some "in the know" folk's minds, Sam was the brains & executor behind much of what Geo. took credit for. I have met him several times and I truly do not think the word "humble" is in his vocabulary!!
