Default 28/29 Electolock Popout Switch

I have a 28/29 Electrolock popout switch that will not allow the key to rotate to turn it on. I've taken it to a local lock smith and he feels we need to take the tumbler out to see what is wrong. That's the question. How do you get the tumbler out of a 28/29 popout switch when you can't turn the key? I've seen posts in the past that said if the screw on the side of the housing is removed, the tumbler will drop out. That doesn't work with this switch. I've also seen at least one post that said it is necessary to drill a hole in a strategic position. OK, how do you get the tumbler out?

Thanks for any help offered.

I would send it Dick Crabtree. He restored my switch for my Tudor. Nice guy and he stands behind his work. His number is 605-487-7229.

Don't spray WD-40 on it. I've heard WD-40 isn't good for pot metal.
Do you have the key for it?

I don't mean to be glib, but do you have the right key for it? Can you remove the key from the switch?

I do have the key for it and the numbers do match those on the switch. The locksmith said he thought some of the waffers in the tumbler were damaged and are sticking. He tried to free them up but couldn't. He thinks he can repair it if we can get it out of the housing. I have a copy of the engineering drawing for the switch so I can see how it works. I just don't know how to get the tumbler out of it.

You might try some graphite powder. This worked on my door lock a couple years ago.

Problem solved. I found mrtexas post of 3/5/11 that showed where to drill the hole in the housing to release the tumbler. I did it and it easily came apart.

Thanks for your responses.

I'll second Jamie's suggestion; Dick Crabtree is the one source I trust when it comes to popout switches.
