Default Different Oil Pumps

Gents,

I was going through some parts and found a couple of different oil pump designs. The one that is one piece and can't have the cover removed is obviously older. The older pump has a larger discharge hole. So please educate me. I did a search on the forum and didn't find anything. I can't find my service manual.

Thanks
Ron

Why was the design changed; ie the size of the opening. I am guessing that the later model is the more desirable to use? Is the one piece pump early 28?
