Default Afordadable Oil Filter which filter?

I have the Affordable Oil Filter conversion on my CCPU. The installer painted the filter black.
What filter number is a correct replacement? NAPA, or others...

Thanks,

Methinks a Fram PH8A or equivalent fits. Very common filter, that fits a lot of Fords, at least up into the '90s.

I use the WIX 51515 which is already black and has a peel-off label.

Several filters other than the big, FL-1A that holds .88 quarts of oil will fit the "A-fordable" side mount.

All spin-on oil filters have a "backflow preventer" rubber flap valve of sorts that keeps the oil from draining in horizontal apps. A 90 degree adapter is NOT needed to keep the filter full, but they prevent a big mess on removal, and allow 100% pre-fill when changing filters on the side cover mounts.

Shown here are two 90 degree adapters, both Ford parts. In the small inset is the currently available adapter from Ford Motorsports, about $80. It is offset to the left and has an annoying tab (red circle) that can easily be trimmed off. The larger pix is one of two styles of out-of-production Ford adapters from V8 truck apps. I got this one at a bone-yard for $12, and it has a nice offset to the right. There are three others from Ford, but I have no part #'s or pix, sorry!

The short filter in the pix is a Fram PH7328, 3 5/8D x 3 1/4 H .6quart
If you want more knuckle room, Fram PH3614, 3"D x 3 3/8 H .4quart
Also, Fram PH3600, 3"D x 5"H .6quart
If you're not a Fram fan, look up the conversions to another brand.
All these filters will fit either directly on the side cover in place of the FL1A or on the 90 degree adapters.

Surprisingly, there's a bigger mess changing filters with the elbow than horizontal. The elbow holds quite a bit oil above the filter so when it's twisted off here it comes. The horizontal filter drains half into the valve chamber in a few minutes after shutdown. When you spin it off only about a tablespoon comes out, enough for a paper towel.
The horizontal mount also puts the filter in the fan slipstream for good oil cooling.
Cheers.

Great it uses the NAPA 1515 gold.
Have used for years on my boat. WIX makes it.great to have 1 filter that fits more than one motor.

There is also a chrome oil filter cover that fits over the filter and has a screw clamp on the back side that is mostly out of view. Nice item if you don't like the color or look of a painted filter under the hood. I am not sure who is selling them any more, but likely Speedway or Summit. Rod

That's why I take the 90° adapter off with the filter. No mess at all.
