Are you sure you worded that correctly? The drum and backing plate are two different things. The backing plate bolts to the spindle. The drum turns on an inter and outer bearing and does not use a torque value. It is tightened and set based on the free turning of the bearings. Or am I misunderstanding what you are asking?

I've never seen any specific values, however they may exist. You can always check a torque value chart for the values based on bolt ID, thread size and bolt type. Torque values should be chart values except in cases where clamping force is an issue, such as cylinder heads, main bearings, etc.

I have never been able to find the torque value for those backing plate bolts.
I just use a 1/2 in. drive ratchet and socket and make them as tight as possible by hand. I also use the lock washers. Make very sure the head is seated properly against the spindle.
Also, use some BLUE Loctite.

Not sure what model or year car you are working on. Could be your avatar but ??
I've never set backing plate bolts to a torque spec either. On my 35's I just tighten them down good, and install the cotter pin. Never had one come loose.

I think those bolts are 1/2-20 so around 40 or 45 is probably good. I am about to the same place and that was what I was going to use. I plan on using just the marsden lock nuts.

They're grossly over engineered. Just good and tight is good enough. Nice and tight and then to the next castellation if you're using them. No need to go mad on 'em.

The only ones that are more critical are the rear lower ones where they attach the radius rods on some models. Same applies, nice and tight, I'd guess about 50 lbs ft.

May I ask what was the source of the torque specs that you provided? I would love to obtain a copy.
