Default Flushing '51 Ford Overdrive

My goal is to flush out the tranny and O/D unit. There is one drain plug for the tranny, none for the O/D. Do they share a common area? Does that drain plug drain both units? Going to use diesel to flush with, then put in new lubricant.

There should be two drain plugs on the overdrive tranny. From the 1949-1951 Ford Shop Manual:
" For transmissions equipped with overdrive, drain at two plugs. Refill through transmission only. Refill capacity with overdrive is 4 1/2 pints of SAE 80 or SAE 90 in warmer climates."

My '50 ford has a fill for the trans and one for the O/D unit. I fill slowly through the trans., also one drain plug/hole on the trans.

Try this: Unhook the wire at the relay that comes from the ignition switch and tape the connector. Then put a 10 gauge wire from from the starter solenoid to the relay where you removed the switch wire. Test drive and see if it works....
