Default Stampings on my block.

I’ve seen the posts about dating blocks etc, but none of these seem to fall into that info. Thought I’d post for everyone to see. Of them all, 060 is about all I get anything out of.

Thanks,
T

The 'F57081' and what looks like '625367' numbers are representative of stamps on a block that has gone to a machine shop or rebuilder - they use it to reference a job, order or customer number. The '060' was probably what it was bored too on one of it's journeys to be rebuilt.

These are not anything to do with the original manufacturer (Ford). The square stamp is probably from the original Ford foundry or machine shop . . . can't claim to know the significance of it (if any).

Mike, Ford did in fact stamp short codes on certain blocks to identify particular characteristics of those blocks such as running changes, the most widely known such mark being an LB on the topmost machined surface of 1936 insert bearing blocks. You may also see an LB mark on a pre-insert block, stamped buy an unscrupulous seller to fool a buyer. Beyond those sorts of stampings, I know of no dates or series of numbers applied during manufacture of Ford Flatheads. What you have may also have been a rebuilders invoice number, or even an owner to satisfy a DMV requirement.
