Re: VIN number
Hi RC
This should give you what you need. At least the list. Don't know if it "decodes" the numbers. Might check the first "sticky" on front page also. http://mafca.com/data_eng_production.html

Re: VIN number
Go to StevePlucker's web site. There is a list of the motor numbers out that can tell the month, day and year your motor was assemblied. If you're lucky enough to find the plant assembly code usually infront of the front seat then you can determine what plant the car was assemblied at and what number it came down the line susposedly.

Re: VIN number
The VIN (engine number, frame number) speaks to when ".. it was “run-in” to loosen it up. After this procedure, the engine was then given it serial number and sent to the motor storage area.. "
This might be easier then looking it up. http://www.cabriolet.modelahouse.com...umbers/numdate

There is really no "decoding" of the serial number of a Model A. It is just a sequential number...from the first Model A built in late 1927 to the last in 1931. It is the same number on both the engine and frame (at least WAS when the car was built). The only thing you can tell from this number is the date the engine was run in and approved for installation. When the engine was installed in the chassis, the engine number was then stamped on the frame. This could be months after the engine was stamped. The 17 digit VIN came about in the early 1980's. It is standardized and can tell you model year, assembly plant, engine type, etc. No such animal with our Model A's unfortunately.

Re: VIN number
The "A" designates an engine for either a car or commercial vehicle.
The "AA" designates an engine for a truck. What letters are at the end of the vin we have no idea. Give is the complete vin you are working with. Is the number you are dealing with a restamp or a original stamping? Pluck |

Re: VIN number
That can easily be a correct number for a 1931 Model A due to the slow sales and stock of engines on hand.
