Trailer for a Model A

Hello Folks,

Besides wanting to buy a Model A, I am also looking for an Enclosed Trailer.

I was already in the market for an enclosed trailer before the model A bug. I need one for some of my giant scale RC airplanes. A 16' trailer would be fine for just the planes, but now adding the model A into the equation possibly changes the length of the trailer I will need. I would also be storing the Car in the trailer for about a year. When I go flying, I'll pull the car out and put a cover on her. When I go flying, it's mostly less than 4 hours or so,so the car would go back inside the trailer.

Question:

Do some of you use an enclosed trailer for transport and storage of your model A, If so, what length do you have and are you happy with it? What size of enclosed trailer should I buy? Would a 8.5 x 16' be to tight or would a 8.5x20' make more sense.

A regular model A vehicle (not a large truck) is about 11 feet long, give or take a few inches. I would think a 16' trailer would be OK. If cost or the extra weight is not a problem, you could go with a longer trailer. Trailers have been discussed a lot on thia board, so a search of "trailer" would yield a lot of useful comments.

Mine's a 20' enclosed, with tool/work bench in front. I also store a car in it through the winter. Jeff

Make sure you look at the door height. Some people have to lower the tire pressure to get thru standard height doors.

Alright question time:

What do you have to tow with?

Do you EVER plan to have any other cars in it besides the Model A? (like someday you would want a camaro or something)

Trailers come in different widths as well so keep that in mind for future info.

16 are nice but 18's are more prevalent and easier to resell later on.

I have an 04 Ford F-150 Super Crew Titan 5.4L No other cars besides a couple of bookend 97 Geo metros and a 90 F-150 4.9L inline 6 with a 5 speed. I also have a pair of Hydroplanes that could both go inside but I made a hillbilly double decked trailer for those.

Primarily just the Geo's, Model A and giant RC aircraft. I'm to poor now to own a nice Mopar. That was back in my younger years, ... Before Kids!

Yup, … I'll need a 8.5' wide version but around Southern California I have only seen them in 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, and 24's.

Remember Bill, You can always find something to fill a longer trailer, but when you have something to fill the trailer you will need the extra space, so what harm in getting a 20"?

Placing a workbench in the nose has advantages with the planes.

Speaking of width-- is 7 wide enough? I guess the advantage of a 7 would be that they pull a little nicer and you can more easily use your rear mirrors to see what's behind you.

I had a 16'L X 7'W. Without an escape door you could get stuck. It was also tight squeezing down the side since I'm not HWP.

My friends call me Miss Measure so you don't want me to help build anything but if my tape measure (made in China) is correct I find most Model A's (passenger) between 152+" to 159" or 12.5 ft to 13.25 ft I would stay away from a 16" trailer. If you opt for the 7 ft W one be sure and get an escape door across from the passenger door on the A assuming you'll be driving it in the trailer and not winching it on.

I learned the hard way ($$$$$$$$$) I now have a V nose 8.5 X 18 and it's PERFECT for me. I also added a couple cameras to overcome the visibility issue.
