driving and maintenance
I would like to hear everyone's estimate on how many hours of driving, equals how many hours of maintenance that they've experienced.

Re: driving and maintenance
Get it running and starting real good, drive the hell out of it,(2000 miles a year or more), change oil between 500 and 1000 miles, depending how you drive it, and fix what breaks. As long as it is running good, leave it alone and enjoy it. Don't monkey with it. Clean the plugs when they get black and fuzzy. Parades will foul your plugs. Points, plugs, and condensers will last thousands of miles.

Re: driving and maintenance
was it brand new when you started? Too many variables so virtually impossible to answer.

Re: driving and maintenance
Anyone that has followed Jack's videos (YouTube), and seen the family and friends that have driven his car(s), or toured with the Oakleaf group in person, or by watching online.. IMO he might have a good formula to work with for driving/maintenance questions. I'm sure that the forum has drivers on both ends of the scale, from many miles to maybe just a few.. Thanks to all, I learn here everyday.!

Re: driving and maintenance
I agree with Jack. They were made to be driven. My roadster runs better when you drive it often. I know people like different formulas on when to change oil. I like to change mine every 6 months.

Re: driving and maintenance
Driving your Model on a regular basis will do more to keep it running good than just about anything. Drive it for enough to really get it up to temperature.
I have a Tiny-Tach in my car that acts as an engine hour meter when the engine is not running. I change oil and lube the chassis every 30-40 hours of usage. Oil the distributor and generator and lube the water pump every 10-20 hours. I completely restored my car and now have almost 9000 miles on it and really have had to only do normal maintenance. The only real problems I have had is a rattle in the muffler hanger which I re-designed and a leaking Mitchell Transmission which they provided the fix-it kits for. That is what I do. Chris W. |
