Default Showing a car in the "original" class...

I think I know the answer to this one but would like another opinon or two or three or.......

If one were upgrading a car to show in the "original" class of judging, would he or she be downgraded on the use of very good original parts which were restored to original condition?... except for painting of coarce.

I know...if "very good original parts"...then why "restore to original condition".

OK, let me rephrase this...If the original battery support assembly was perty rough on the car but was replaced with one of the same which has lost its original paint and was repainted to correct color, put on the car, would he or she be downgraded for that replacement due to repainting the part?...OR should the very good rust colored assembly be used?

Thanks.

Pluck

The idea of an "original un-restored" is just that, un-restored. Now to what extent the judges carry that I'm not sure. Morally if the car is entered it should be original to the best knowledge of the owner.

In the real world, the rusted one would get the better "score" since it would look original as opposed to the "restored" better looking part.

Hi,
What about NOS correct parts with original aged patina? I would think this would work. Jim

It all boils down to the opinion of the judge looking at the particular area. Having shown a car in the original class and being faced with a slightly different problem. I concluded that, when a replacing a damaged part with a better part, authenticity was the most important factor and trying to match the condition of the rest of the vehicle was the second most important factor. Therefore, a repainted original may or may not be a better replacement than a rusty part. Which one will look less out-of-place on your vehicle? On my 1930 Town Sedan, someone replated the front bumper. I replaced it with an unrestored original that matches the car perfectly. In the case of your battery carrier, a lightly painted, satin finish carrier may match the rest of the undercarriage better than a rusty pitted one (or vice versa).
