converting to open driveshaft????
Sometime back I saw a speedster using an open driveshaft. It had the stock rear end with a yoke installed using a universal joint to install the open driveshaft. Anyone done or know what is needed to accomplish this trick? And yes, the rear radius rods were beefed up to compensate for not having the torque tube. I am thinking of doing this with an old strip down I drive around the pasture.
Thanks |

Re: converting to open driveshaft????
Closed driveshafts are the best for pastures, so you won't get tall grass and bailing twine wrapped up in the driveshaft.

Yeah, why go to the trouble of changing it?

Re: converting to open driveshaft????
Go over to the HAMB http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ lots of hot rod guys do it. There is a kit commercially available to convert the rear end but I forget who sells it.

Re: converting to open driveshaft????
The Hot Rod Works offers an open drive adapter, as well as Speedway motors. There was a recent post on the HAMB (by me) that referenced a thread by "Tman" showing how to make your own. I got a good deal on an "open box" from Speedway, but was otherwise going to make my own.
I don't have Tman's thread easily at hand, but should be easy to find by searching over there. |
